Things to Do


On Cocos Keeling Islands you can do range of activities from a relaxed walk along pristine white beaches watching turtles play to adrenaline adventure sports like game fishing or kite surfing.

Swimming: Swim in the pristine warm tropical waters of the ocean or lagoon fringed with palm trees.

Surfing: Two surf spots, The Spot and The Shack cater to all skill levels from beginner to the more experienced surfer.

Diving: Year round in uncrowded pristine tropical water teeming with abundant sea life. With visibility of over 20 metres, you will be treated to spectacular gardens of hard and soft corals, a variety of colourful fish, including angelfish, parrot fish and butterfly fish. Sharks, turtles, manta rays, colourful clams, nudibranchs, moray eels, octopus, tuna, trevally, barracuda and dolphins are just some of the inhabitants you may encounter. Cocos Dive offers, dive trips, dive courses, and underwater scooter tours.

Snorkelling: Whether you walk into Trannies Beach on West Island, do a reef walk across to Pulu Maraya at low tide, or catch a ferry to Direction Island and do the, 'Rip" snorkel which carries you around the outer reef towards the lagoon, you will enjoy a vibrant tropical underwater world alive with colourful fish and sea creatures.

Kite surfing/wind surfing: From July-October the trade winds provide the perfect conditions for all levels of kite surfing and wind surfing in the warm, aqua waters of the lagoon.

Fishing: Game fishing, fly fishing, jetty fishing, and beach fishing spoil you for choice! Wahoo, tuna, sail fish, bone fish, sweet lip, silveries, cod and mullet are a few of fish you could reel in.

Glass-bottom boat tour: Sit back and relax on a glass bottom boat tour as an underwater paradise unfolds before your eyes.

Kayaking and paddle boarding: Kayaks and stand up paddle boards are available for hire so you can head off on your own adventures around the Island.

Motorised canoe tour: A motorised canoe safari takes you on an unforgettable tour-fish, snorkel, and enjoy the sights with complimentary drinks and nibbles. Turtle tours are also available.

Golf: Play golf on the 9 hole golf course next to a beautiful coral lagoon. It is the only golf course to play across an international runway! Join in a game of Scroungers-a fun team golf game played every Thursday. Club hire and drinks purchases are available at the golf club. All levels of experience welcome.

Beach Walks: Voted as having Australia's best beach in 2017, Cocos Islands have kilometres of white coral sand beaches fringed with lush tropical vegetation. Stroll along the shores and spot the turtles and black tipped reef sharks in the clear blue waters or just take a beverage of your choice and enjoy a sunset you'll never forget.

Explore the Islands: Only 2 of the 27 Islands in the Cocos Keeling Islands are inhabited and all are just waiting to be explored.

Bird watching: If you are a bird watcher, you're in for a treat. There are upwards of 30 breeding and resident bird species and other migratory birds on Cocos Keeling Islands.

Dining: Three restaurants are available on West Island, Saltmakers by the Sea, Salty's Grill and Bakery, and Tropica Restaurant. The Cocos Club also offers some meals. Home Island has 2 restaurants: The Seafront Restaurant and The Island Brunch Cafe. The Barge on West Islands also offers cake and coffee while you browse works of local artisans.

Island picnics: Take your own picnic to the beach or arrange for a private picnic.

Cooking classes: Malay cooking classes are available on West Island.
