Cocos Keeling Islands are tropical coral islands in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Part of Australia's territories, only 2 of these 27 islands are populated.

Home Island has around 500 residents and West Island has around 120 residents. A ferry regularly travels between the two and to Direction Island.

Direction Island is unpopulated and a favourite tourist destination for its spectacular drift snorkel.

The climate in Cocos Islands is temperate, rarely dropping below 24 degrees Celsius. The water is a warm 26 degrees Celsius.

West Island has an area of 14.2 square kms and a coastline of 26km.
